Tips & Tales

It occurred to me that over the years one picks up, borrows, learns of and sometimes invents amazing tips and ideas…….regardless of what your trade is.

So…..thought me……I must write stuff down seeing as the brain files most things in a dungeon somewhere on a planet in a far distant galaxy!
So I will faithfully share my gems of brilliance with you here before my brain sends them to limboland!

Matts’n Tangles

Recently one of my elderly clients asked me to give her rather senior kitty a make-over.
Maxi is nearing 20 and is still in excellent health. She eats like a teenager, enjoys sunning herself and is a very happy, friendly old lady. But she really battles with grooming…..she manages a couple of feet and maybe an ear and then gives up.
Her owner had been very ill and had not been able to groom Maxi as she usually does……the result was a kitty almost entirely covered in thickly matted fur and tangles. Like a dread lock gone rogue!

I took Maxi back to Damascus…..I had a week to get her looking new and fluffy.
Because of her advanced years a bath was out of the question – I simply did not want to traumatise the poor dear like that.
So the answer had to encompass gentle and soothing……..

Baby oil!

I bought hypo allergenic non toxic baby oil with vitamin E and gently massaged it into Maxi’s fur. A bottle a day for 3 days. The oil soaks right down into the skin. It sooths and softens and lifts the matted fur away from the body.
By the end of the first day dead fur was already falling off. Each day I would take a wide tooth comb and gently coax the tangles…..no tugging or pulling needed. The tangles will just fall off.

It was really amazing……by the end of the week Maxi was a new child! The matted fur is very uncomfortable for them……when they try and wash or lie down it tugs and pulls and hurts terribly. Now, with not a tangle in sight, Maxi was rolling on her back, begging for cuddles and purring when I brushed her. As a bonus the baby oil had cleaned off dust and conditioned her stressed out skin.

I was so happy that I’d been able to help my kitty client…I hope you find this tip helpful! It is just the first ……I meet so many wonderful, clever kitties and their humans every day so I get lots of precious knowledge which I promise to share!

Stay safe and blessed!
